    my computer freeze

    hi.

i have this problem for 2 weeks and i cant find what it is.

for example, i leave the pc the whole night on, and when i come back its always the same: it works for 5-10 minutes and the first, the mouse movement stop and a bit later the screen freezes.

    i passed all this:

1- change and update drivers, bios,...

2- pass antivirus, adaware,.... (kaspersky, spysweeper, adaware,..)

    3- passed memtest86 3.3.

4- check conections of electric power and components of the pc.

    5. watch temperatures of motherboard, cpu, graphic card,...

it freezes either playing games or just reading my emails.

    any help???

You seem to have gone through all necessary procedures so it should be something software related(background applications/services?)or maybe hard drive overheating/giving up. Weekend is coming so I recommend you to spare some time and reinstalling OS anyways. I see you have very powerful rig there so it could be power related too. Do you have any other power supply that you can try?

the OS i already reinstalled from 0 thinking that it was a software problem..... i spent a lot of time on it and no results.

i also passed the memtes86 3.3 last version in the cd and after 3 hours, all seems to be good in RAM.

    i think, maybe the graphic card or the power supply;

the power supply is the new OCZ 700W, so it should be plenty.

the graphic card is the xfx 8800gtx extreme (600-1900); a hungry power monster.

so maybe the card is damaged, or maybe the power supply doesnt give enouth power.

i put out 2 sata drives to save energy and underclock the graphic card and all seems to be fine at the moment (and i played spellforce, dream tennis match and runaway 2 for long times); so it shoul be one of this things (or maybe the sata drives??...uhmmm).

if yoy know how to test this thing independently let me know please; like i did with memtest86 and the memory.

    thank you

If it's factory overclocked model then there is a chance that memory get too hot after a while which make the system to freeze/halt. Too check individual components you'll probably need another healthy working pc and install suspecious component one by one and check for errors. There is no handy utility out there to test hardrives and graphic cards as far as I know... but maybe you can run checkdisc to see if there is any bad sectors on your hard drive? But from your description I think you're on the right track to suspect either GC or PSU as a culprit for your problem. So please do check those components out first and let us know.

Have you installed any hardware or updated drivers - I had this with a PCI USB card - although it actually seemed to work ok, as soon as it was removed it was ok - either the drivers or card.
Look at the event viewer - I had mouse buffer overruns and other oddities in there just before it would freeze....

    good luck

what i get in the event viewer is the "nv4_displ infinite loop".....

i updated all the drivers of the pc, includind the graphic card and i even tried diferent drivers.

so it looks that is that "nv4_disp infinite loop" what is making all this mess.

    any help with this?

i wish i have another one; i could buy another one.... a very cheap one.

the only thing is that if it works, i will not know if its the graphic card; maybe the OCZ 700W doesnt give enouth power (it shouldnt be a problem)....

im trying now the "nv4 infinite loop fix patch".... lets see but it looks like it wont fix it.

I think sawyen was having this "nv4 infinite loop" problem with his 8800GTS. I think it turned out to be a software issue. You haven't installed this "TopDesk Expose" thingy have you? Read here.

i think i can be sure its not a software problem since i installed windows xp from 0 and the pc used to work good.

maybe the graphic card is damaged, or maybe the power supply doesnt give the card what it needs.

i run memtes86 for the cd and it was all good, so the memories are fine.

dont know what to do, maybe bay new parts.... $$$$ ugh

Hmm I think you really got to find someone who will let you use his computer for testing. Troubleshooting these kind of stuff is usually very difficult without one. Did you get it off etailer or from street shop? Maybe be they can help you with this. I'll continue looking around for clue and will post back if I find any.
