Dropped Creative Zen Touch mp3 player. Now won't load music. Any ideas?

    Hi everyone.
I dropped my Creative Zen Touch mp3 player this evening (40gb model), and unfortunately I think it's hurt it quite badly!
When I turn the unit on, it makes the spinning up sound, stops, makes the sound again, makes a constant but audible spinning noise, stops and then boots into the 'Recovery Mode'.
I have 30gb of stuff on this and would really like to save some of it at the very least. Does anyone know what might be wrong? Have I broken a pin in the hard drive?
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Sounds like the HD is caput mate.
Its impossible to know what's wrong with it without opening it up and knowing what you are looking for though.
Im afraid devices like this are rarely made with the thought of the user being able to service them.

I did this to my 20GB model about 4 months ago, if you open it up its a standard laptop drive, mine was properly buggered though. Admittedly it had fallen down a flight of concrete stairs.

I was going to say (read this earlier when I should have been leaving the house) that you could try taking it to a laptop repair centre, and get them to have a look at it, as herulach said, it contains some standard parts, if one of those has gone, then it would be easy enough to replace.

Chances are though, that you'd be best off buying a new player

Or sending it back under warranty if you can.

Course, you'll lose all your tunes then.... Back them up to dvd-r next time. It's only 6-7 dvds and saves a whole lot of re-ripping.

Warranty doesn't cover user damage though.

You could try opening it up and fiddling with the hard drive cable. I dropped my Vision:M and it was only booting up in recovery mode, and by making sure the cable was properly attached got it working again.
If you can't keep up, stick with reality...
