ASUS P5B Premium Vista Edition - Only seeing ~3GB memory :(

    Hi all,

    Recently purchased the following kit:

    Asus P5B Premium Vista Edition iP965, S775, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 533/667/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX

    and 2x:
    2Gb (2X1GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC5400 (667), 240 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12

Issue I'm having is that bios is only flashing 3008MB ram... and windows/ubuntu (x64 version of both) are only seeing ~3GB of usable ram...

Anyone know what could be the problem? Is there anything I'm doing wrong?

Sounds like one of the sticks of RAM isnt in properly, or is dead.

Try each one in each slot.

is it possible that one of your modules is faulty? have you tried each one individually?

    OS limitation

What os are you using? If you have installed vista 32 bit version then due to the limitation of the mobo you will see only 3 Gb of RAM even if you instal 4 GB. Only in 64 bit version you will be able to use all the RAM

Each of the memory modules work fine (tested individually), as do each of the memory slots on the motherboard (again, tested individually).

Upto 3gb worth of memory modules are recognised fine... plug in the forth, and the system doesn't appear to pick it up.

And I'm using 64bit edition of windows and have also tried it with 64 bit version of ubuntu.

Weirdest thing is, CPU-z picks up the comple 4gb, windows and the bios only ever see ~3gb:
