Logged in as admin, but without admin rights? ;-/

Ok just recently reformatted my hardrive, and now i'm at the point where I feel like installing my printer drivers (2 days late), but anyway, its saying that I dont have administrative rights to do so, even tho i'm clearly logged in as administrator ................so... install can't continue .....won't continue ...

There is a method where you...

    # Right-click on My Computer
    # Click on Manage
    # Expand Local Users and Groups ......but his option is not present in XP home.
    # etc...

...anyone have any ideas? ...thx for any help :]

    Try:

Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Local Users and Groups

I thought a different way in might work nothing useful in the User Accounts part of Control Panel?

Try doing it from safe mode. Cant remember that exact menu but I know it gives you more options...

And also, it can sometimes work to change yourself to a regular user, restart, then back to an administrator. Finally restart again....

Thankz ...this one worked... =] ...tho when in safe mode ...I noticed that there were two admin accounts - one that I was currently using which I had given a name to, and is an administrator account ........and another one just called administrator which wasn't password protected ..........are there supposed to be two admin accounts, doesn't seem right... :-/

    edit:
This second admin account I cannot seem to log into... ;[

There will always be an Administrator account on Windows XP. Its there in case you forget your password or something like that. It is not insecure unless you have pesky people in your house who like to play pranks, it doesn't have remote access or anything (I never password protect it on mine).

You should however, be able to log into it from safe mode. What happens when you click on it from safe mode? The account is hidden in normal windows and has to be unhidden in management options (that aren't present on XP Home I think).

Yep I know that ....thats fine .....but in safe mode I have two admin accounts!:

...and when I click on this second one [ which I can actually login to btw]..theres not many options..
(pass protected it ..dunno why just feel safer with passwords)

...anyway still uncertain as to whether two admin accounts is normal... [maybe it is, tho currently researching it]

hmmm... dunno if related! (prolly not)... but I just happened to do a scan and :-S....

    ....Nod32 ant-virus has just found a Sehole.A trojan.... 2 of 'em!....

    A0005261.dll - Win32/Sehole.A trojan - deleted ( admindll.dll )
    A0005262.exe - Win32/Sehole.A trojan - deleted

    annoyed now... hehe
calling it a day (2:50 am) ......will prolly wipe all and start again later on.

A virus doesnt necessarily mean you should wipe the entire build, especially if you removed it fine. From the photos you posted I can only see one Administrator account, your normal account (the Home one) and the guest account. That is completely normal in safe mode.

Oh well ..kool then ...I thought this... [underlined in red] meant i had two admin accounts ..hehe... got confused.

tho ...think I will reformat ... a few weird probs have cropped up regarding freezing and behaviour a know for sure is definitely not normal ....it's just quicker to wipe all and start over.....have image with all updates etc anyway ..so wont take very long.

    ...thx :]

No, that just means that there are two user accounts on that machine which have admin-level privileges (and so have a free reign over the machine pretty much).
