    2900xt lockup issue

I posted this in the ATI forum but it looks like its dead in there so i thought here would be better
I had an x1900xt on vista 64 and games ran fine. I installed my HD2900XT the other day and since then in games like COD2 and BF2, after a period of playing, the game will lockup and the sound loops. The only way out is to press the reset button. Nothing's overclocked at all, but does anyone know what might be causing the problem - faulty card? or is it another component?

    Cheers

    Re: 2900xt lockup issue

Well, seeing as your PC worked fine before the upgrade, it could be the extra power draw between the X1900 XT and the HD 2900XT is pushing it over the edge or as simple as the card is faulty. I don't suppose you still have the X1900 XT to hand?

You could also check your voltages with Asus probe but they aren't 100% accurate and you'd need to look at them under load.

    No i dont sadly
So you reckon its worth taking the card back then? how much less power does a 640GTS draw? might swap it for that

I'd try monitoring the voltages with Asus Probe, you can also use programs like motherboard monitor to keep a record of them while your playing then you could check the log after it crashes. If you see a really big and obvious dip under load that is far out of spec then that is your problem.
