    Need free dial-up numbers...

    Hi everyone.
I'll soon be changing my broadband provider, and will have a period without broadband while the service is being changed from one company to the other. I just wondered if anyone knows of any free dial-up numbers that I can use in order to have a 56k connection while I'm waiting.
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Re: Need free dial-up numbers...

There are a couple around that charge you a certain amount for every minute you are online, but most of these are going to be quite a lot of money if you use them a lot.
Last time I checked the totally free ones come with ads that you have to watch, but I could not find any in the UK, this was about a year ago, most of them were in the US.
    Search on google ...

ALso if your new provider has sent you your new broadband id and pass prior to installing broadband then sometimes they work on a dial up service, using a number for that company, mine did with telewest, although they may still charge per minute

Thanks for the post '[GSV]Trig'. How much are you charged per minute for using that one. Or am I being stupid in thinking that an 0845 number is always going to cost you money?

There's no free dialups - but you can get 0845 ones that aren't too bad. As well as the above, Virgin have a pay as you go dial up number somewhere on their pages - you need a virgin sign in, but that's free for payg.

    Re: Need free dial-up numbers...

About as free as you will get I would think.
1p a minute off peak to get online without signing up to an ISP is not a lot.
Especially when you are stuck and need access to emails etc.
Free is going round your mates and using their broadband and even then it may cost you a pint.
    Or unsecured wireless.

I also used to use Geekserve 0845 1257942 username and password both geekserve. Don't know if it still works. I can't find the site any more and lack dial up facility to test.

    Re: Need free dial-up numbers...

There used to be ic24 literally free 0800 no from 10pm to 7am ish but charged outside these times.

Otherwise I use freeola's 0845 no but that went down the drain
    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!
