Any recorder that can record from the video input can do this.
HOWEVER, only Sky+ will let you use the EPG to record TV. Anything else would work just like a video recorder. SO you would need to set the regular Sky box to the right channel and leave it alone. Then tell the recorder to record from the input at certain times.
But you can use non-Sky EPG's (like GuidePlus) to record programs on Sky.
Unless I'm misreading what ange wants to do, this is exactly what I do (or rather, almost).
I have a Pioneer hard drive recorder. It downloads GuidePlus data from conventional TV transmissions, and you can then select and program from that. It then controls the satellite box (or in my case, NTL cable box) changing channels as appropriate, using an infra-red dongle thingy, and records direct from the cable box via a Scart lead. Anda friend does exactly the same thing, also using a Pioneer HDR, but from a Sky sat receiver.
Hope that helps, ange.
hmm...
i guess a DVB-S card wouldn't work, officially or unofficially. perhaps there is some unofficial decoding software.... but i am only guessing
@Saracen: I didn't know commercial boxes were tat sofisticated to be honest. Good to hear
@UltraMagnus: That is possible, but not easy, not exactly cheap an not really legal either. So lets not go there
thankyou
thanks
there's a reasonable volume of free-to-air, unencrypted stuff on the satellite cluster used by sky:
all of the above you can receive, legitimately, with a DVB-S card and sky minidish (no subscription required to anything). if the channels you want are included in the above list, there are many options for non-sky boxes.Code:* Aag TV * Aapna Des * Abu Dhabi TV Europe * AIT International * Al Jazeera English * Anime Central * ATN Bangla UK * Audi Channel * B4 * B4U Music UK * Babecast * Babe Central * Babestation * Babestation 2 * Bangla TV * BBC1 * BBC2 * BBC3 * BBC4 * BBC HD * BBC News 24 * BBC Parliament * Bedroom TV * BEN * Best Direct plus * Best Direct UK * Bid TV * Bliss * Bloomberg TV UK * Blue Kiss * Bubble Hits * CBBC * CBeebies * CCTV 9 * Celebrity Shop * Channel I * Channel M * Channel S UK * Channel U * Chart Show TV * Chat Box * CITV * Create & Craft * Daystar TV * DD India * DD News * DM Digital * DM Islam TV * Essex Babes * EuroNews * EWTN Europe * Faith Channel * Fame TV * Fashion TV Europe * Film 24 * Fizz * Flaunt * France 24 English * Gala TV * GayDateTV * GayNetwork * Gems TV 2 * Gems TV UK * Genesis TV * Geo UK * God TV Europe * God TV UK & Ireland * Golf TV Pro Shop * Gospel Channel Europe * Hollywood TV * Home & Travel * Horse & Country TV * Hotel Voyeur * House of Fun TV * Ideal Vitality * Ideal World * Information TV * Info TV 2 * Inspiration Network International * IPlay TV * Islam Channel * ITV1 * ITV2 * ITV2+1 * ITV3 * ITV3+1 * ITV4 * JML Exntra * KICC TV * Life One * Live Roulette TV * LivexxxBabes * LoveWorld * Mana Telugu TV * MATV National * Max TV! * Men & Motors * Monte Carlo Roulette * Movies4Men * MTA International * My Channel * Northern Birds * OBE TV * Open Access * Open Access 2 * Open Access 3 * Overseas Property TV * Party People * Passion TV * Peace TV * Performance * Performance Mainstreet * Phoenix CNE * Pokerzone * Pop * Pop+1 * PopGirl * Price Crash * Price Crash 2 * Price-Drop TV * Prime TV * Psychic Interactive TV * QTV * QVC TSV Now! * QVC UK * Raj TV * Real Estate TV * Real Estate TV+1 * Real Wives * Record Internacional Europa * Revelation TV * Rockworld TV * Russia Today * Scuzz * Sex Station * Shop Now TV * Shop on TV * Shop Vector Plus * Shorts TV * Simply * Simply Ideas * Simply TV * Sky News Ireland * Sky News UK * Smart Live Casino * Smart Shop TV * Speed Auction TV * Sport xxx TV * Sumo TV * Sumo TV+1 * TBN Europe * Teachers TV * Thane Direct * Thane Stop and Shop * The Baby Channel * The Business Channel * The Entrepreneur Channel * The Golf Channel UK * The Jewellery Channel * The Vault * The World Network * Thomas Cook TV * Thomson TV * Tiny Pop * Tiny Pop+1 * Travel Channel * Travel Channel+1 * True Movies * True Movies 2 * Turn on TV * Turn on TV 2 * TV Shop UK * TV Warehouse * TV Warehouse+1 * TV Warehouse Select * TWC Fight! * UCB TV * Vector 24/7 * Venus TV * Wedding TV UK * Wedding TV UK+1 * Wine Network * Wonderful * Zone Horror * Zone Reality Extra * Zone Reality UK * Zone Reality UK+1 * Zone Romantica UK * Zone Thriller
