Incorrect Memory on BIOS, System Failure

    Hello!

I have a problem with my RAM Module, actually I don't know if the problem is my Mobo's memory slot or the module it self. Here's what happened, after I removed my memory modules (I have 1 512MB Kingston PC3200 and 1 TwinMOS 512MB PC2700), I can hardly get my system online again. I tried to reinsert and change the location of the module in 4 different slots (my MB is ASrock 939A8X-M) but then again it would fail. However, I managed to get the two module working (working- i mean my system is up again), but the problem lies now in my BIOS, it can detect the two modules on Slot 2 and Slot 3 but it reports that the total system Memory is only 512MB whereas it should be 1024MB.

I would like to ask for a kind advice or help whatsoever regarding my problem. I hope I can resolve this asap thanks!

I can think of 3 possibilities
    • sometimes there are compatibility problems with differing makes of memory.
    • you didn't seat the memory properly
    • you didn't use static protection and have knackered a module

Try inserting each one individually and see if it is correctly reported on its own. If it is I would guess it's the first, if not the last.

recommend use of a properly grounded anti-static strap. If you want to chance it - at the minimum - don't work near manmade carpet, don't wear shoes, ground yourself eg against a radiator (with metal pipes into ground)
