AMD's view is that Intel's Xeon is multi-chip module or two dual-core processors glued together and that is legacy front-side bus architecture introduces bottlenecks in memory-intensive applications. AMD claims that Barcelona is the only true quad-core design. Gordon Haff, an analyst with Illuminata Inc. of Nashua, N.H., agrees that the current Intel quad-core chip, code named Cloverton, is not a 'pure' quad-core design like AMDs.

Amd processors are must more energy efficient than intels the most important feature is overclocking .

    Just visit this web

There are hundreds of more .

In last no doubt Amd is better in all aspects .
So where are these actual benchmarks of which you speak?

Which planet have you been visiting again over the last 18 months?

AMD isn't fit to wipe Intels bum and everyone knows that.
Everything between them and ATi that is released is also a year behind everyone else.

    Re: New PC

In fairness to AMD the brisbane core isn't half bad, especially for the money

there's no reliable word on either intel or amd's next gen quadcore's, until they are released it's anyones guess.

As things stand though intel don't just have the edge..they have a country mile between them and AMD in most cases.

    Re: New PC

I think it's because amd bought ati at the wrong time...
but anyway yes ontopic the op should stick with the intel setup. possibly wait for the 8800gt? if you can hold it a bit longer

Mate go by the facts Amd was on top of the line and was beating intels arse from last 10 years or so before the arrival of core 2 duo.Wait for the next Gen of Amd to arrive.

You are comparing actually intel next Gen to AMds current Gen.Not a good move

    Re: New PC

The thing is to deliver your point of view .We are not here in pentagon for statements atleast not me.
This is new era Ali G LOL
B/W Comparing Amd and intel was only becaz of giving a clear picture of both processors to guy becaz he is spending a good amount of money for rig so its good to share your point of view.
This race b/w AMd and intel Ati and Nvidia will carry on until this universe lasts
Its precious to make a rite decision for your own good.

    Re: New PC

yep it's good to let the op know his options, i doubt he will wait for the amd CPUs ( Fraz ) in Q4 but if he is getting one right now it's gotta be Intel because their C2D ones are beating AMD clock to clock.

    Re: New PC

What sort of cooling would be best on my quad core Intel? im sure the stock fan would be OK but would also be as noisy as hell! What are peoples views on the best cooling?

    Re: New PC

Regarding CPU cooling... as I originally said in this post :-

    http://forums.hexus.net/help-technic...ml#post1247986

With 2x nVidia 8800GTX Cards and 4 hard drives, I don't think the noise of the stock CPU fan is going to be of any concern, my OEM GPU fans make considerably more noise than my OEM CPU cooling fan...

Replacing the stock OEM cooler could possibly invalidate the warranty on the CPU, and I would find it hard to believe you will even hear the CPU fan above the noise of 4 HD's and 2 x GPU fans...

I would be more concerned about ensuring those 4 HD's were cooled sufficiently (which may mean adding even more fans), I run 6 HD's in a coolermaster Stacker case and with that many drives running so physically close together, active cooling is important to ensure the drives remain within the operating tolerance of the manufacturer, I don't know the case your thinking of, it may have active cooling for HD's as standard, but it's something to bear in mind.

I know, but if we compare performancewise they are still beaten in most. I usually compare the clock speed and performance, I mean if theres a chip thats running 1ghz lower and outperforming the one running at a higher clockspeed thats got to be an excellent chip. The core2duo ones have great overclockability thats why they are such good cpu's. yes I know you like amd but when the new cpus come out we can all compare and we will see who's right.

If you think for a second, i was comparing Interls cores 3 revisions ago. Even the first generation C2D's were better than anything AMD have on offer even now. The E6700 wipes the floor with any AMD chip for example and thats 18 month old+ technology.
Now Intel have moved forward again and AMD arent even in the distance now....they are much further behind.

WAS is the operative word and one which you didnt use yourself in the post you made.

AMD havent been anywhere near as good as Intel for the last 18 months/2 years or so..
No-one really cares what AMD used to do.......its the here and now that counts and AMD are lagging way way way behind.

    Surely you can see that?
