have i got the right psu?

hi ive got a x-pro 500w psu. bit of a no-namer but it was 40 quid and said it was compatible with socket 775. just arrived and installing it on a abit fp-in9 and low behold it doesn't have an 8 pin power connector!!

    the psu only has

    20/24 Pin M/B Power Connector
4 x Serial ATA HDD power connector
    6x 4 Pin Gold-plated Molex Connectors + 2 x 3 Pin Gold-plated Connector
    ATX 12V 4 Pin
    PCI Express 6 Pin

am i out of luck and need to buy a new psu? the abit motherboard manual says it wont start without this connection.

I think you may need one of these-

4 pin female to 8 pin male ATX 12 Volt power adaptor (0.2m) - Cape - Shiny Hardware LTD Evercool Case fans

I read somewhere a while ago, that you could get away with just inserting the 4 pin connection, but I am not too sure about it.

Can't you take it back, as if you were advised about something and it was incorrect that is grounds for getting your money back or exchanging......IIRC that is a consumer law.
2nd computer gigabyte P965ds3p, 7770 E2140@2.9ghz, corsair HX520 6 years stable, replaced now with E8400@3.9ghz and will overclock more when I'm bored.
