power issue with ASUS P5KC motherboard

Have just finished building my new pc using the asus p5kc motherboard. the psu that i am using is a Tagan 480-U01 (480 watt) PSU. The system doesn't seem to power up.

I have checked the following and everything seems OK:
    1. 24-PIN ATX power cable.
    2. 4-PIN 12V (P4) power cable.
    3. Q connector and everything is plugged in properly.
    4. The system LED located on the asus board is green lit.

Can anyone help with advice or suggestions. The only thing that may be causing an issue is that the P4' on the atx 12V cable may mean 'pentium 4 and so is incompatibale with a core 2 duo setup. Any opinions would be great. Thanks, RM

What are the rest of your system specs? Have you tried plugging in only the very basics like graphics card, cpu and one stick of memory only?

No, you have the right one, the connector is known as "P4" whether used on Core 2, Athlon 64/X2 or Pentium rigs

Green light suggests that you may be looking in the correct place. You have the P4 connector in place? Will it not power up _at all_ or do you get a brief spinning up of drives/fans etc?

No spining of system fans or hard drives etc. There is no activity from the system at all, except for the system LED on the motherboard that is green (showing the mobo is recieveing power).

Re: power issue with ASUS P5KC motherboard

I have checked a few reviews of the tagan u01-480 and they all list it as being AMD K7/K8 and Intel pentium 4 compatiable. If the atx standard on this psu is lower than the current atx standard then surely this would pose a power problem. Or can you use older psus with newer core 2 systems??

Re: power issue with ASUS P5KC motherboard

Afaik the Tagan U01-480 is an ATX 2.x PSU, with EPS12v support (24 pin / 8 pin). For the P5KC you need a 24 pin connector (ATX 2.x) with a 4 pin "P4" (ATX 1.3).

It may work with a 20 pin connector instead of 24 but it will always require the 4 pin "P4" power block to be connected. Note that the detachable 4 pin block on the 20/24 pin connector is not interchangable with the 4 pin "P4" connector!

Re: power issue with ASUS P5KC motherboard

Thanks for the help guys. the Tagan PSU has been very problematic since my upgrade, so have just ordered a Corsair HX 520 that comes with the 4-pin 12v cable rather than the 8-pin on the Tagan. Will let you know how i get on.

The Tagan does have a 4 pin, it is compatible with pretty much every mobo you could buy.

Re: power issue with ASUS P5KC motherboard

I have tried the 'p4' connector and the 24-pin connector connected and the mobo doesn't power up except for the system LED light coming on.

Re: power issue with ASUS P5KC motherboard

Will give the corsair PSU a go but it looks like a 'DOA' mobo.
