    AM2 Motherboard Recommendation

    Hi all,

I'm not very familiar with the AM2 motherboard market I was wondering if anyboday has any recommendations?

Basically this is for my mates dad. He's not an overclocker but does want some decent features and expandability. I'd say the £45-80 range.

    Cheers

    Re: AM2 Motherboard Recommendation

I've just bought an Asus M2N as an upgrade path. 1 pci16 for graphics, 2 PCI-e and 3 PCI for any legacy cards. Onboard sound with headers for front panel, loads of USB ports (3 on the back panel, rest are all headers) 4 SATA ports, 1 IDE 2 channel port for legacy drives and a serial output (header only)

If he is running windows, its fine - there is a slight issue running Linux, but I doubt he'll be doing that! (and its not insurmountable!)

Alternatively some of the Asus micro atx boards which have fewer expansion slots, but include graphics and sound onboard. (or he might consider a barebones system - just add drive, processor and memory)

If he doesn't mind onboard graphics, the Gigabyte GA-MA69G-S3H is a full ATX size board based on it's mATX GA-MA69GM-S2H which has had loads of good reviews.

    Re: AM2 Motherboard Recommendation

I have just built a rig on an Abit NF-M2 nView and its going great. One site has a cheapo of this at less than £40 bargain.

    Re: AM2 Motherboard Recommendation

I have had several Asus over the years & I'm running 3 M2N in various configurations at present - well designed, reliable - I've tried a number of "cheaper" brands less happily.

with the eee they're trying to become a "name" and seem to care about their reputation amongst the general public too - well worth considering...
