    Re: Only one core shown!!!

Does windows task manager show one or two cores, likewise the BIOS on post?

If you've swapped a single for a dual core, you MAY need to refresh the windows core to support a second core, usually most successfully by putting the windows CD in when it's running and doing an "upgrade."

Have you upgraded from single to dual core ?

If so then the following post might be a possible fix

    Re: Only one core shown!!!

The traditional way is to reinstall your OS, though this claims it will sort it for you without resorting to that.

    Re: Only one core shown!!!

Just silly try but if you check you BIOS just to be sure that you didn't disabled second core there.
Because when it's disabled during booting it'll still show 2 cores but OS will see just one.
As I told it might be silly but maybe

    Re: Only one core shown!!!

I've had limited success with XP and 2003 server when trying to enable a second core after install.

The best way I've had experience of was to boot and log in so windows is running, then insert the OS CD and let it autoplay. Choosing Upgrade from the menu then starts the install process to deploy the SMP HAL but with everything else being left as is. It's a nondestructive install but has always activated the second core of any CPU.

I used to frequently do this with my PIII system under windows 2000, as i was playing with the effect it had on the timing of a device driver i was developing. Had no side issues what so ever, its fun not having to compile a new kernel.
