Lil Advice Needed

Hey guys, this will prolly sound silly, but yea i got a few days off and i was bored. I have all these old parts lying about which i wanted to improvise with. My laptop gets really hot, I place it in the trolly/stand type thing, on the top...which has lil holes all over that piece of flat metal. i wanted to stick 6 old 8cm fans under it to constand blow air up to the latop - i have an old power supply to connect these four pin fans, but how to i switch on power supply without the mother borard etc, im sure u can? i dont have much knowledge on these things, i don't wanna end up blowing something.

lol, ha i finished sticking the fans on with blobs of blu-tack - looks messy with wires trailing everywhere and is noisey as hell coz of these fans. i removed the top plate n stuck 'em on and chained 3 on each side. this lil trolley was like 7 quid from argos.

i guess i could neaten it up later if it works well.

edit* it's steadily lowering the temp - this fz normally runs really warm.

that's absolutely brilliant!
could you not screw the fans on through the grill on the top?
that grill looks about the same size as fan case screw holes, worth a try?
less messy that blu-tac and not as loud when it falls off and starts hacking at a wire underneith..
has it worked with the laptop?

cheers matty! yea, i was thinking i could give the screws a try, they're downstairs somewhere, i'll find em...as long as i can get at least 2 of the holes diagonally across from each other that should hold it up. coz the blu-tack is dropping off, from the wires. but fans i pushed on hard.

it seems to be working - slowly but steadily. soon after turning it off, the laptop fan kicks in, otherwise while the fans are running it's hardly blowing out much warm air.

yeah, most cases only have 2 drill holes at diagonal to hold them on anyway..
i love it, i've showed a few mates of mine and they all think it's brilliant

ha, really? cheers! if i get time i'd try n make it neater and if i had quieter fans, then i cud use this more constant...i wonder how i could power those fans without the use of a bulky PSU...must be some lil adapter.

those fans will always be loud just becuase you're pumping air through those tiny gaps in the top.. but yeah, i'm sure there will be a more efficient way to power them 'cause i'm sure that PSU will be costing you a fortune in electricity.

Not really -the fans don't take much power.
