CCTV DVR Hard Drive Issues

hey guys I was wondering if someone could help on this problem im experiencing with my CCTV DVR system.

Problem: Basically i want to install a 500gig hdd but when i shove it in it only reads 127gig of it. Its not running windows, linux or mac but it own program which i can seemt o find any info for.

Anyone know any solutions?

it sonds like the players software has hit the old lba limit. there might be a firmware update available from the manufacturer other than that i think your stuck

i heard partitioning fies it on normal computers. but do i format it with fat or fat32?

there's somethign to do with the bios and having to change a setting, and also having to change a jumper with IDE (ata) drives... can you get into the bios? and also, do a bit of research and see which pins you need to set the jumper on

That jumper does the opposite of limiting the drive so that BIOS only see 127GB.
I doubt the manufacturer will bother, consider these products have such a long shelf life, if they use really old chipset there will be no way of updating it to support >127GB.

May be make a batch script on your computer so that it will move all the footage from the CCTV DVR to the 500GB (connected to your computer via USB) everyday?

It will be the lba limit - and it would require either a BIOS update to fix it, or some form of dynamic drive overlay - but that is unlikely to be available for your system. Perhaps the best option might be to format and partition the drive on another computer so that you have several sub 127Gb drives - but there is no gurantee that the DVR OS will recognise them all.

HEy all, thanx for the advice. Tried partitioning them and the os didnt recognise any of the partitions but just showed the hdd as a whole.
I contacted the manufacturers and theys aid they will try to find the reason and if it needs updating they will do it for free. Luckly they are not far away.
