Hi all.
Running stock IntelAIR on a Q6600, mounted on a Abit IP35Pro with latest bios revision, I've a Seasonic S12 PSU, and 4GB 2x2GB Corsair XMS2 800MHZ.
I am very new to OC work, and would need a basic guide, but is 3GHZ possible?

I've got a similar system, using 667Mhz Corsair RAM but a Thermaltake VX120 cooler.
All I had to do was set the FSB to 333 and take the PCI timing off auto, and job done. It's all under the uGuru section of the BIOS.
Only thing I'd consider is making sure you do a proper test with Orthos, as I'm not convinced the Intel stock cooler is up to the job.

Tried 333, and I had PCi timing off auto and it goto almost into windows before freezing, tried it on 300 *( 2.7ghz ) * booted in and seems fine, temps with Uguru in Windows is 29c idle. Thats with my heating on in the lounge.
if it froze before entering windows, try upping the vcore one notch... then orthos test... your idle temps seem fine, i get the same (well, 2 degrees less) with an ACF7 pro covering a 2160 at 3ghz...
that said, 3ghz for a q6600 should be easily obtainable, especially if it is a SLACR... gl, and post back if you need more help
Ahhh okies shall do, finally disabled speedstep thing, and cs1 i think it's called.
Will try that in a minute.
Tried that noticed up cpu core voltage to 1,3100 fsb @ 333 got just to desktop before it locked up
If you are having trouble trying to run orthos (because you have to run 2 instances ) use Prime95 as it recognizes the 4 cores of the quad.
At 3ghz mate not even getting into Windows, not too impressed at this right now, I am doing what I am told on various forums to no avail.
Got it on 2.7GHZ right now all stable, damn quick.
Yeah, for you guys I took some images of what I see in the bios, some of this I shall admit is utter total nonsense to me of which I would normally steer as far away from with the fear of turning my pc into something as stable as a South African Dictator on Crack stood on a house of cards, but on this occasion it's time I learned something
One concern is my ram is Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800mhz, is this fine for this type of OC'ng?
You know, it's only when you get threads like this it occurs to double check the settings....
Just realised I had my ram set to 800Mhz, not the 667Mhz it's rated for AND I hadn't adjusted the RAM voltage to the recomended 2.1v
Ahem, this'd explain why I never got my chip above 3Ghz at least
Anyway, moving on
Change that DRAM divider to 1: 1.1 so that figure becomes 800Mhz, and you should be fine. You might also need to up the voltages to what your RAM is rated for (check the Corsair website, it's typically 2.1v but not always)

As you see in my shots I am limited to 1:1:00 would that do? or 1:1:20
Doing the maths, it *should* be the 1:1.20 setting that gives you 800Mhz, which your RAM is rated for. If that still isn't stable, try adjusting the DRAM voltage to 1.9v, and if still no joy up it to 2.1v
Try not to go beyond 2.1v without checking with Corsair what the maximum safe voltage is, otherwise you invalidiate your warrenty.

Current settings but I keep getting lockups in Vista X64 Sp1 Ultimate right now, forcing reboots. Although I am lasting alot longer than I was previously so something is working right And I am wondering wether it's just Vista being Vista but it has started since I hit 3GHZ.
edit: this is the longest, interesting this is the only time I've not opened WLM 9.0.
