Question My Shuttle XPC dose not start well in the mornings? Why?

I have a shuttle SD39P2 and the problem I'm starting to have with it is that its starting to be like me, doesnt like doing mornings

The problem is that I press the power button and the Fans all power up and start spinning but there is no activity, as in i can not hear the HDD spin up or no display on the Monitor.

I have tried leaving it on for about 5 minutes to see if it would just kick in and start up but no joy. So I am having to hold down the power button until it turns off and then power it on again to which it then boots up fine.

I am just a bit concerned as this has started happening almost every morning or when I go to start the PC for the first time each day.

Any ideas as if its a fault then i need to send back as about 3 months warranty left.

    Cheers

I'd suspect the PSU - if it is under warranty, RMA it.

I had this happen with my ST20G5 and it fixed itself after a few months but there's no way of telling if this will happen with your machine. I'd send it back while you can.

Re: My Shuttle XPC dose not start well in the mornings? Why?

I would first check the motherboard to see if you have any bulging caps as this can cause the issues you are having IIRC.

I would check the Sudhian forums for more details regarding the problem you are having:

    http://forums.sudhian.com/

The PSU you need is the PC55 which is the same one which my SD37P2 uses. The PSU comes in 350W,400W and 450W versions with the SD37P2 and SD39P2 having the 400W version as the 450W is an "upgrade" PSU over the standard 400W version.

I have seen the 450W verison on Ebay sometimes and a few months ago there were some new ones available for well under £100.

The 400W and 450W PSUs on the later SP35P2 and above are not compatible with the earlier SD37P2 and SD39P2

Re: My Shuttle XPC dose not start well in the mornings? Why?

If it's the first boot up, and not the "morning" part, then definitely suspect the PSU, and also double check the motherboard capacitors as CAT said.

But it might also be worth considering that it might be the cold.

If the room the comp. is in gets very cold, then booting up might be affected. The PSU might not be providing enough power when its cold, preventing the motherboard from starting. Just a thought.
