    Heat Problem

    Hi there people,

Right well awhile ago i got a new case (Coolermaster CM-690) so moved everything from the old case to the new one and had a huge problem with keeping the CPU cool sorted it by getting a new heatsink (Scythe Samurai Z Rev.B) and re-applying some new paste.

Now got a new mobo and psu and having heat problems with the CPU again. Right now on avg its about 56-60c and whenever i start to do anything heavy (play a game etc) it jumps up to 65-75c.

My problem is ive got a Intel P4 3.6Ghz CPU (Yeah i know tis old n crap lol, but should be getting round to buy a E8200/8400 when i have the money) and Socket 775 heatsink really don't like me lol and it takes me like 20-30mins just getting a heatsink on. Just wondering if anyone has any tips for a. putting a socket 775 heatsink on and b. tips of CPU cooling.

    Thanks in advance

them temps are not too bad if they hit 80 its a bit off but 65 aint too bad try putting only a little paste on too much can have adverse effects on the cooler. Maybe adding a new case fan might help though yours should have quite a bit of cooling.

    Re: Heat Problem

make sure your air flow through the case is sorted. i have 120mm going in and 2 80mm (side and back) going out. i had to test the best settings eg. when i had side going in i got higher temps for my components. also confirm you fitted it correctly. my p4 630 idled around 45 and only rose to 50 with ac freezer pro 7

    Re: Heat Problem

Don't worry about it, those temps are about right for a P4 (they run hot). So long as your cables are tidy and airflow is not a problem, then you'll be fine.

    Re: Heat Problem

The CM-690 can hold up to 8 fans so you shouldnt really have a problem - just make sure you get the direction the right way.

65-70 IS that bad i think.

Absolute maximum you should put up with is 60 degrees load.
Idle - no more than 35-38.

Remember though, the core you have is renowned for being hot.

LoL yeah it is. I just got a new cpu now anyway (Intel 8200) and the temps are way down and under load sometimes only just gets up to 50-52c

So cooling problem is somewhat better lol, though avg temp of cpu is 45c normally though can drop right down to 38-40c

I think so better quality t-paste will prob improve that abit. Any suggestions?

One of my most stable machine is a Pentium D 920 @ 4Ghz. It runs at 77'C at max load for a months non stop at a time and I have yet to have any trouble. Heatsink: Zalman CNPS9500-AT

Pentium 4/D is fine at those kind of temperature, nothing to worry about.

Idle at 35-38 is not usually possible when you have a particularly hot CPU or GPU. Even with a couple of Yate Loons going at full whack I generally see case air temperature in the range of 40~45'C. Even if you've speedstep going or have very good air cooler you're going to see idle temperature in the range of 43~48'C for a C2D. Most aircooler have a cooling performance of 0.15~0.2'C/W with high fan speed so even at 20W you're looking at 43'C or so, for a 40'C case air temperature.

There is rarely any side-effect apart from relatively poor overclocking when running at temperature that high. Perhaps taking 100Mhz~200Mhz off for 10~20'C higher. Which, if you aren't looking for the maximum possible overclock, would mean nothing.
