AVG 8.0 and Windows Live Messenger fix?

does anyone here have AVG 8.0?
whenever i have the 'Web Shield' active it just WILL NOT connect to MSN..
and it's very annoying having to disable the 'Web Shield' everytime i want to connect to MSN..

does anyone know if there's a fix for this?
i'm fully registered and it's all legal..

is anyone else having the same problem?

    Got it.

    Not got your problem.

May I suggestion unticking "check archives" "scan potentially unwated programs and spyware threats" and "use heuristic anaysis", as they slowed my machine down a tad.

Now also untick "instant messaging" and see if that helps.

If not updating/downdating msn to version 2008 and seeign if that works as thats the one I have.

if i untick the instant messaging that also does nothing..
unticking just MSN does nothing aswell..

i've not noticed a PC speed difference since installing it..
so i think i'm okay leaving the settings alone atm

I was referring to web browser speed, doesn't matter though.

Hmm have you tried an install and reinstall of msn.

Re: AVG 8.0 and Windows Live Messenger fix?

I had the same problem and resorted to editing the registry to get msn to work, although there is a simpler way and you dont have to disable to shield altogether. all you need to do is go on to tools, and select advanced settings, then go to web shield and instant messaging.

Leave enable instant messaging shield checked, and leave ICQ protection checked too, just uncheck msn.
The shield is stilla active so you wont get warnings saying it has been disabled, and the virus scanning still covers msn. This just adds msn to exceptions so it doesn't keep getting blocked.

Alternativly, you can edit the reg really easily by running regedit and going to current user, software, microsoft, msn, and deleting the per passport settings file.

But you need to do this everytime you want to sign in.
