wirless internet very slow

I have just recently moved to a new wireless broadband provider over the past 3 days. since starting new provider pages on mine and my daughters laptop can take upto nearly 15 minutes to open if they will open at all. My laptop works well at my partners house on his wireless network. I have spoken to the provider a few times and they say I have upto 8 meg coming in the house and are saying it may be down to needing updates for the built in modem. My laptop is upto date with its updates but still it has no problems anywhere else just my house. could there be a problem with the wireless router itself sending out wireless messages. It is an echolife router i think.

Try connecting your laptop directly to the router with a network cable.

If things improve then it is a problem with the wirless and not the broadband itself. If there are lots of other wirless network in your area they will all be interfering with each other and causing really bad transfer rates.

What wireless router do you have? there may be a way to change the channel it uses to broadcast on to avoid other networks.

There are lot of other reasons for bad wirless reception, but this should get you started working out what the problem is.

I have just been on with the provider again today for 1 hour 51 minutes and after trying all the different settings and resetting the router they have come to the conclusion it is the router at fault. Well this guy seemed to be more helpful as the last one told me it was both the laptops and nothing they can do, he was not very helpful
but at least it is sorted now just got to wait and see if the new router is any better. never had this problem with last 2 wireless broadband providers. only changed cause free with phone network i am with
