PXE-E61 Media Test Failure

Hi everyone,

Hope you can help me.

Just had my system returned from Komplett after a repair, it needed RAM replacing after 10months

When i set it up again, CD/DVD drive would not work, so I bravely opened the side of the tower, to discover they had not connected it up again, neither had they connected the hard drive back up

After reconnecting them, I booted up the system to get the PXE-E61 Media Test Failure Check Cable message. Then reboot and select proper boot device

A friend reckons they have forgotten to reset the Bios and this is why I am getting this error when I boot up the system. Also noticed briefly i got a NVARam?? message and this makes my friend reckon it's something to do with bios.

Tried contacting Komplett via email, just got a standard "we have received your email, please do not change this tracking number" reply, also when trying to ring them recorded message kicked in, but when I pressed Option 2 for tech support, line just went dead

Any ideas? Do I just reset Bios to Default settings and hope for best or sit and look at a £400 system doing nothing? (Thankfully my daughter has a system, so I am using that one for the time being)

Reset the BIOS should do you no harm so give it a try. NVRam stands for non-volatile RAM which just store your device setting. It should reset itself when you boot with default BIOS.

Brief searching about that error seems to suggest you either have a bad cable (easy to fix yourself, just replace it) or they've broken your harddrive (or probably during shipping), and quite a other few things seems to trigger it too. Give the BIOS reset a try first.

Hard drive seems to be working okay - did a slight reinstall of xp incase they had wiped entire system, thankfully I didn't format h/d so original install will still be there or i'm crossing my fingers that it will be.

Will try BIOS reset on Monday and see what occurs, failing that my friends sister's partner has just got my 4yr old system up and running again, after it had been in a repair shop at least twice and still threw up the same error, if i'm not brave enough to attempt a BIOS reset myself, he says he will do it.

BIOS reset is quite safe. Just press Del/F2 (or whatever key for your motherboard), and load default. Don't need to mess around with the motherboard physically.
