    POST/no-boot probs with Asus P5K + PC2-8500

    I'm having problems with my new-build Asus P5K Premium + Intel E8400.

It simply won't POST / boot-up, not even into the BIOS.

Nothing on the screeen, and no beeps from the speaker.

UNLESS I leave the RAM out - in which case I get "beeps" which the manual (page 3-1) says means that no memory is detected. If I then put the RAM in, no beeps (make sense) but still no POST/boot-up.

Whether VDU card is in place or not, no difference, and no other beep combination.

I'm using Corsair PC8500 RAM designed to run at 1066Mhz, which I've heard some people have problems with on the Asus P5K.

Tried using much slower RAM (PC4200 pr PC3200, I think), but still no-go. There again, from Asus manual, I'm not sure if it will work with memory that slow.

    Any ideas?

Should I try some PC5400 or PC6400 memory designed to run at 667 Mhz & 800 Mhz resectively) in case the P5K is very picky on memory speeds it will work with?

Or have I a more serious MOBO problem?

    Suggestions gratefully received?

Try clearing the BIOS and putting one stick of RAM in the furthest slot form the CPU, then re-BOOT.

Also check that the motherboard has all the plugs fitted fully home (especially the one by the CPU).

I've recently had a similar problem with a motherboard and I've been told to RMA it - I'm going to try a new GPU and another motherboard before I do though just in case.

not sure if its the same issue but sometimes the boards have voltage set lower than what the rams can handle. either use only one ram as stated by stox or use a cheap value ram to post then change the voltage.

    classic asus problem

    Re: POST/no-boot probs with Asus P5K + PC2-8500

Tried a single stick of RAM.

Also obtained soem other RAM (6400 this time, instead of 8500) and still won't POST.

So looks like I'm going to have to RMA motherboard #2 and keep fingers crossed for #3
