Blank screen with 4870

I got my new Sapphire 4870 today but when I switch the PC on, I get nothing up on screen and the GPU fan spins up then is quiet for a few seconds before doing it a 2nd time. I know Vista is booting up coz I heard the startup music. I just get no display, my monitor stays in stand-by mode. I have both 6-pin plugs connected, all the cables a fine and the card is seated correctly. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!

Try using the other port on the graphics card, also if your monitor has a second port try using that as well. If it's booting into Windows since you can hear the BEEBOO BE BEEEE! noises from startup then I would assume the card is not faulty or it wouldn't have POST'd. How is the fan noise on the graphics card? Is it going like the clappers or is it silent? Going like the clappers tends to mean it's not getting enough power.

The fan fires up quite loudly when I switch on then quietens down very soon after but does it again about 30 secs later.

Problem sorted now. It was my monitor trying to use VGA instead of DVI.

Doh! Glad you got it sorted - sorry I didn't post back, I really couldn't think of anything else other than the cable.
