    RAM Problems!!!!! Only Reading 1gb

After trying to troubleshoot why crysis was crashing, i did what people on here suggested and Tried putting the RAM in 2gb at a time. However, i did this, and the 2nd ram sticks failed to boot. I put all 4 sticks back in - Vista boots up only reading 1gb of ram, even though there is 4 sticks. I have 2 sticks in now, and it is only running one.

Could it be that i've blown 3 sticks of RAM!? I do hope not, I already feel a voice in the back of my head shouting 'If it's not broke don't fix it'

try re-seating all the sticks of ram, or try removing the one that stopped the pc from booting

Download memtest86+ and burn it to CD. Boot off the CD testing each stick individually, then all 4 together.

Even if each stick is fine, if they are from different mfrs or a different model from the same mfr (even with the same spec) you can get problems.

Re: RAM Problems!!!!! Only Reading 1gb

I've tried reseating them several times, and putting them in different slots etc. They worked this morning when i first turned the comp on which is the annoying thing. I ran memtest before and it came up with 0 errors, they are all the same make RAM - Geil Ultra. I tried removing the stick that was preventing it from booting, made no difference. In BIOS it still says there's only 1024MB of RAM installed. its like it is only reading from the first slot.

Do you have memory remap enabled in the BIOS?

    Not sure, what is it?

Edit: I put in 1 stick at a time, and found 2 sticks dead. I'll try and RMA them. Still doesn't answer why i have 2 fully working sticks in at the moment, and its only reading 1 of them though.

Re: RAM Problems!!!!! Only Reading 1gb

Hmmm, I've just been through the BIOS to look for any 'Disable Dual channel' options that may have disabled themselves, but there isnt. Any ideas on how to get it to recognise the 2 sticks? They are in the right slots and everything. It's just annoying, because I'm on vista it's using 70% of my RAM just sat on the internet, so playing any games is out of the question

Re: RAM Problems!!!!! Only Reading 1gb

I thought it might be the board, but I would have thought that something else would have gone, and my computer has become unstable over the past few weeks anyway, and i think RAM was the problem. Indeed, it is annoying having only 1gb I'm currently using my 4gb Voyager as a Ready boost so that is taking some of the strain. Even still, my computer is rather laggy D:
