Question New PC freezes - help please

    Hi all,

Just bought a new PC and it came today but when it boots up it freezes...

Basically i started it for the first time and it froze... i thought that perhaps there was too much power being drained from the power point so i adjusted somethings. However, this only made the computer get into windows and it still froze. However, when i turned my fan (a desktop fan not a computer fan) on it froze for some reason - the fan was in the same socket as the computer.

I gave my computer a totally independent socket and yet it still freezes. Whilst it was being built i was told there was some memory problems - but they said that it had been fixed. I have fiddled with the RAM - switched around which unit is in which socket etc - no avail - still crashes.

Im not massively computer literate but I know a few things.

    Here are my PC specs
I think i will be sending this thing back - any help would be appreciated though!

    Thanks

Leave it at the BIOS setup screen and see if it still freezes.

Either check that the CPU heatsink is secured correctly, or just remove and re-attach it.

If you have a multimeter, check the 12v voltages.

Re: New PC freezes - help please

They have encouraged me to open it up and said that it will not void the warrenty if i fiddle with the insides.

Im doing a memory test at the moment with memtest and it has been going for 50 minutes and is 50% done and it hasn't crashed AT ALL! There are no errors to report at this time either...

So apparently it only freezes when it goes into windows then. Mayb it is something to do with the CPU????

I would hazard a guess at the 4870.

While running memtest from a bootable CD, you will be in text mode, probably drawing minimum power and generating minimum heat from the graphics card.

Annoying! Why can't manufacturers build things which actually work - constant faults etc

What are the temps of the cpu and mobo in the BIOS? Do they look reasonable? Is the boards BIOS up to date?

Have you got another grpahics card you can put it and test?
