Check the plugs and connections to the hard drive, as that was the last thing you did anything to. In particular check the SATA data cable as they are (as I have found) easily damaged and can make poor contact.

If you have done anything to the IDE drive, ensure that you haven't disturbed the cables where they plug into the mobo. Have you canged the drives over - are the master/slave assignements correct? Was the drive you unplugged a master - was it the boot drive.

Given that the machine isn't getting to post, it might be worth unplugging all the drives and seeing igf it will boot - if not - then check anything else you might have disturbed - graphics card, memory banks etc.

reseat everything. You may have disloged gfx card cpu, memory, power cable to gfx card or mobo. Just try reseating everything.

Did you unplug the data cables on the IDE drive(s) at any point. I know from bitter experience that if the cable is on the wrong way round it can cause this problem. The red stripe on the cable should be nearest to the power connector. They are notched nowadays to help prevent this but it is possible and it isn't as easy to tell with a rounded cable.

    Re: dead computer

seems to be the motherboard as 2 of the ram slots have failed
got the pc running for 1 day now nothing again

looks like a new mobo is needed
