Re: P5Q-Pro System - Won't post, please help!

before my computer crapped out on me, it would freeze and blue screen of death everytime i loaded up in XP, then I ran it in safe mode to install drivers which worked fine (thinking it was video card driver conflict). Then i went back to xp desktop and it bsod/froze again within seconds of start up.

Tried reformatting then went up stairs and bam broken. So it could be that even your second one is still faulty. If you read some of the reviews on newegg.com there have been people reporting 3 dead ones in a row. I don't know if its some kind of cheap manufacturing issue or what not.

But I'm definitely going to point my finger at the motherboard at this moment.

Re: P5Q-Pro System - Won't post, please help!

Mine now boots to XP. Still not perfect but miles better than before.

Turns out my problem was trying to boot a SATA hard disk that was configured as IDE rather than with AHCI. Once that was resolved windows started but when I got to the startup screen none of my USB devices worked including mouse and keyboard. Great.

Played around a bit but still no joy until I unplugged my card reader from the motherboard USB header. Booted with just keyboard, mouse and front case usb ports. Now I could get to windows and the usb ports were powered. Keyboard worked fine, mouse worked for a second and then stopped. Light was still on though, indicating it's still getting power. Tried moving it between usb ports and same result each time.

I've now plugged a really really old (it's beige and so old that the beige has gone yellow ) PS/2 mouse in and viola! I'm in XP with a working machine. But I still can't use more USB headers on the board without stopping all my devices working. And the USB mouse won't work despite having up to date drivers (it's a microsoft device that was always fine with plug and play anyway).

I'm now going to download the latest drivers and updates for all my hardware. But first I'm creating a restore point and noting the BIOS settings since this is the first time the machine has actually worked.

Re: P5Q-Pro System - Won't post, please help!

    Hi,

I have a similar problem but I can start my computer sometimes.
So, I've just finished building and installing a PC. (It's not the first one but everything's changing so fast in this world...) It looks like:

    MB: Asus P5Q Pro
CPU: Intel E7400 2.8GHz (not OCd)
CPU cooler: AC Freezer 7 Pro
RAM: OCZ 2x2GB Dual Channel kit 1066MHz
HDD: Seagate 250GB SATA (only for system, I haven't installed the other one yet)
    Video: Sapphire HD4670 passive PCIe2.0
PSU: Antec EarthWatts 430W (came with the case)
    OS: Windows XP SP2

So, most of the times when I start the PC with the power switch it doesn't POST (blank screen), and when it does, I often get error messages like: "system can't boot because of C:\Windows\System32\Config\System is corrupt". And then sometimes it starts the Windows OK... It's the same with Express Gate, sometimes it starts OK, but sometimes I get the message: "E.G. is not installed correctly"
But when it has started Windows and I restart it from Win it restarts correctly.
Can anyone please help me? This drives me crazy...
Oh, it might be important that my PSU has a 4-pin CPU connector and the manual says that I should use an 8-pin one. But I read that many people use this mobo with a 4-pin one and I don't OC anyway.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Re: P5Q-Pro System - Won't post, please help!

Try flashing your BIOS, I've seen quite a lot of problems with Asus motherboards not posting (often shuts down after 4 seconds after turning it on).

I've managed to fix my issue today (the computer was shutting down 4 seconds after powering on). I removed my BIOS chip and flashed it in another machine. My motherboard is now working again. Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe.

But as you can get to Windows sometime I would recommend either flashing in Windows or create a DOS boot disk.

    Rgrds,
    Michael

Re: P5Q-Pro System - Won't post, please help!

I had a problem with vista for a while that I thought was mobo or gfx related. It turned out to be the RAM that was faulty. I also have a p5Q-Pro, which I'm now very pleased with.

I own a PC that changes regularly, so I don't bother putting anything in here...

Thank you guys, it was the mobo. They replaced it and now it works nice.
