Creative Zen V Plus won't boot-Library stuck on rebuilding

Hey all,
My girlfriend's Creative Zen V Plus has stopped booting properly.
It loads the Creative screen, then the Zen screen as usual, then it loads a "Re-building Library" screen. The bar starts but progress freezes about 1/7 of the way across. I have to put a pin into the reset hole to get it to respond.
I tried going into the Recovery Mode and doing a "Clean Up", but as it does the "Scan Disk" it gets stuck at 43%
Again, the only way to get it to respond is to reset it.
I have tried updating the Firmware and plugging it into the PC and using Creative's Recovery software but nothing has helped so far.

She doesn't want to lose the music on it (mainly because she doesn't know what's on there so it would be a hassle getting it all back), so I have not tried a "Format All" yet.

Does anyone have any ideas that might help get it to work again (or at least to access the music on it)?

i haven't managed to get a look at it yet though...

hers is a zen v plus 2GB.. i think..

actually, that sounds exactly like what she described.. it won't even charge unless it is plugged into her laptop... try'd it in my desktop and another desktop and nada...

i shall reset it when i get hold of it...

i've e-mailed creative to see what they say. mine looks like a Rma job
