Thought I new what i was talkin about ... maybe not !!! please help

Hi, Ive just bought a new tv which supports 1080p hd etc, have also recently purchased a ps3. Now i want to watch blueray films and play the ps3 through my surround sound system, however my existing dvd/suround sound system (all in one) does not have hdmi input/outputs !! Is there any way i can rig the system so the hdmi cable goes directly into the tv obtaining the picture and say by using scart or video in audio connectors in rear ov dvd player so i can obtain the sound thru my amp ( i imagine not), so is there any other way of getting round the problem other than buying a new surround sound system ?? Also, I am aware that if dvd player has a component video in connector it will support 1080p, mine has component video out connector (is this one and the same thing ? ... ie can i use it as an input ou output ? many thanks in advance for your time

Can't you just use HDMI to the TV and the Optical to the surround system?

If this is the model you've got i'm sorry to say that you can't do surround via your PS3 with it.
This is do to it lacking an optical/hdmi input so it's got no way for the sound signal to get there.

It may be possible for you to connect it up via your tv (depending on TV model. Which one is this) so you get two channel sound and have dolby prologic turned on but this isn't going to be anywhere near as good as true surround sound.

    Sorry Darkchisel

That surround system is a big rubbish if you ask me. There is no digital input at all.

    Sorry, but thats crap.

You will need to use analogue, but then you won't get surround from it. Sure it might use all the speakers, but it will only use piping the stereo audio to all speakers, not proper 5 channel surround.

Bit of a waste coming from a BluRay player if you ask me.

That Sony surround only has stereo audio input over SCART, so no matter what you do, you won't get proper surround from an external source.
