Exclamation Botched something not sure what though

Well Earlier I was OC'ing my CPU when I got a sudden BSOD, so I thought I'd just reboot into windows, no such joy,

it boots to the login screen ( I can hear the noise), but all I get is some graphical corruption at the top of the screen, I scoured the internet and someone suggested a corrupted windows install bought on by the BSOD, so I slipped in my Vista disc, now it gets to the screen where the screen where you select your language and location should be, I can see the blue background and have control over the cursor, but no window shows.

I thought I'd test if it was just my disc and downloaded the trial version of Windows Server 2008, popped the newly made CD in and again it got to the stage where I should select my language and all that but no window.

Due to graphical corruption my attentions turned to my HD4850, so I unplugged the HD4850 and plugged in my onboard graphics, still I got the same problems.

So now I'm at a loss as to where my problems are, worst case scenario is motherboard or cpu or even both, but surely if this was the case the machine would not be POSTing?

All help wanted and really appreciated.

Try using 1 stick of ram at a time when post to see if one has popped. (If you have more than one stick that is! )

Also like mentioned, try resetting the bios

Unplug everything off the board also, take out soundcard, vga and anything else you have in there and just use onboard.

Yeh first thing I did, now the wierd thing is I just tried Ubuntu and it worked perfectly =/ so there doesn't seem to be a problem except for with windows, however my wireless adapter refuses to work under any distro of linux and I've tried a few, I'm completely at a loss with this whole deal now.

EDIT: Waited for an age and it finally popped up, just seems to be pretty slow recently, not sure why, but Gonna try and install Server 2008 now as it was the disc I had in at the time and I can't be bothered to wait again, I'll report back later.
