Shutting down teh computer by powering off (rather than a controlled shutdown) may have caused corruption to the file system. The solution in that case is to reformat those partitions/drives. However it might be worth mounting the drive in an external caddy (or as a seconsdary dribve in another machine) to see if it can be accessed, and then you can get the data off it before you reformat.

try the maxtor test tool, google them and see if they recover the partitions

Re: E:\ and G:\ is not accessible need help

i used the "SeaTools for Windows" it kept on taking me there when i searched for "maxtor test tool", it passed all the tests, there were 2 things left to do a firmware update(which was not available) and a basic format(which i cant do as i need the data)

    when when i typed

"CHKDSK e:" in the 'run' box (the GUI version was not working from my computer for these 2 drives) and this is what i get

    img7.imageshack.us/my.php?image=chkdske.jpg

when it gets to 99 % of stage 1 of 3 it just exits and when i start it again is says the same thing (Deleting corrupted file at segment 1) then gets to 99% and then exits

as for "CHKDSK g:" is exist as soon as it opens

A program called getdataback may help. It's not free tho (but that depends on your morality I guess ).

I googled for you and found this. You might want to read the links to "high-level formatting" and "zero fill utility" as well...
