Windows detected a hard disk problem

I have had a 320G SEAGATE ST3320620A PATA hard-drive for about 6 months. Since yesterday Windows keeps popping up a message saying "Windows detected a hard disk problem" and prompting me to back up it's contents.

I've ran windows checkdisk and seagate's own 'Seatools' diagnostic software and neither has reported any errors, however I've noticed that the file transfer speed of the drive seems rather slow at 30-50MB/s.

What could be wrong with the drive? And could I fix it or would I have to get it replaced?

I'd change the cable to start with, even though a fault there would normally be picked up by seatools it's worth ruling it out at least.
Might also then be worth looking at the mainboard - i.e. updating the chipset drivers.
    Moo.

Weirdly, I unplugged the cable, plugged it back in again and now I don't get any more warning messages.

Strange, aye? I wonder what that was all about.

    Thanks for the help.
