Lately, I've noticed the HDD access light constantly flashing on my Vista PC, even when it's idle and has been for minutes and even with no programs open. When I look in the Reliability and Performance Monitor a process "svchost.exe (LocalServiceNetworkRestricted)" is heavily accessing random files. Am I right in thinking this is either indexing, prefetch/superfetch or something similar? I'll post a screenshot if I catch it again.

svchost.exe runs on behalf of services.. i think process explorer can tell you what started it
svchost.exe > properties > services tab
I've checked the processes using using Process Explorer by matching the PID. It seems the service is related to normal Windows components:
