Disk read error after bios update!

    Hi,

FYI. Motherboard is Abit NF7-S v2.0 with Sil 3112 SATA150 controller. Hard drive is an Hitachi 160Gb SATA.

My Dad's computer has been having some problems with USB devices not working. Like ipod Nano and a bluetooth usb adaptor.

The only thing I could think of was changing the bios from an unofficial modded bios back to an official Abit bios.

I downloaded the bios and flashed it, within windows, using the Abit flashing utility.

It flashed fine but when the system reboots I'm getting a "Disk read error, press ctrl alt del to restart system".

Since then, I have tried 3 different offical Abit Bios. I flashed these using a bootable CD. I have also tried the Windows XP repair/recovery utility included on the XP installation CD.

I have scanned the disk for errors using windows recovery. No errors. I have also written a new boot sector but to no avail.

There are some other options that windows recovery has but I'm unsure of what these actually do.

    Can anyone help at all?

If you booit from the windows recovery disk (or from any other CD based operating system) can you read/write to the hard disk?
