    Simple question...

I'm selling most of my old system sans the HDD'S.

What procedures should I follow if any?

Is selling the pc hd-less safe for the person I'm selling it to?

Or is it just a case of them sticking thier own HDD in, popping in a copy of windows and installing?

    Specs:

    E5200 2.5gGHZ
    Foxconn G31 board
    2gigs DDR2 PC2-6400 Qimonda memory
    Sapphire HD 4830
    OCZ Stealth xtreme 500w psu
    Card reader

    Any help is appreciated

    Re: Simple question...

It depends on if you want to sell them on computer forums, through friends or through Ebay.

If you sell through Ebay, most likely that the buyer will not have any experience on messing with computers so don't expect them to know how to fit a harddrive. They'll likely break something in the process of doing so and mess with Paypal. You should also provide a copy of legit Windows with it (including sticker and disc)

If you sell it through friends you'll have to provide some level of support so he/she could ask you to buy a hdd and install it for him/her.

If you sell it through forums you'll probably going to see the whole system splitted. Unlikely anyone will buy your system as a whole.

    Re: Simple question...

Yeah I forgot to mention I'd probably be getting rid of it through gumtree.

I'd definately specify that it would best suit someone who knows their way around a pc though.

Selling the components on their own was the first thing that came to mind tbh, but I just want to get rid of the lot in one go. I would'nt rule out splitting everything up and selling them separately though.

I'd be chucking in a 17 inch acer monitor as well all for £350...reasonable I think, for a test system.

The question is, though, would the system be ok to do what I mentioned above? ie sticking thier own HDD in, popping in a copy of windows and installing.

If you default the BIOS, it should be fine with user installing hdd. Just connect and install. Messy stuff like AHCI should be turned off, in case people want to install Windows XP on it. Just don't forget to stick in a few SATA cables.

With that spec I doubt you'll get much more than £200. The parts you listed cost about £230 on SCAN brand new and 17" monitor could be worth close to nothing due to the abundance of cheap 19-24" monitors. If you sold up 2-3 weeks earlier it wouldn't be as bad, as the price of the 4830 have crashed significantly in the past few weeks. Not sure what computer case you included so I can't estimate the price for you.

    Good points

As for the case...it's crap mate, lol

I might go with what you suggested in your first post. I should have an old IDE drive lying around here somewhere. The only problem would be supplying them with a copy of Windows as I only have the one.

Ah well, just wanted to see if it was possible... which it is.

    Thanks for the help.
