    Ask Orange a simple question...

    Right.
    I have a p900. When connecting via GPRS, they use NAT. Not a problem in most cases, but i want to use DCC on IRC, along with a few other geeky things.
    No problem i thought, surely they must sell a static IP addresses, if not, just a non NAT'ed one would do.
    So i fired off an e-mail to them...

    Hi there.

    Is it possible to have a real IP address when using GPRS?
    Currently, it looks like my phone is receiving a NAT'ed IP address ?

    Many thanks

    <name>
    The response :

    Dear <name>

    Thank you for your mail.

    I have checked the details of the set up for the Sony Ericsson P900 and can confirm that in the box for GPRS IP details, there is no information to be entered, just a tick in a box.

    I hope this information clarifies the situation for you.

    Should you wish to discuss any further issues, please call 156 for pay monthly or 451 option 2 for PAYG.

    I hope this information is helpful
    .....WHAT ?

    Yum, stock answer.

    It probably saw the GPRS and chucked out a "I'm retarded and can't work my phone" answer.

    Mate, you think that's bad? Ask them why exchange 2003 push notifications sometime work and sometimes fail.

    "what?" was the first answer. A ten minute explanation later of how the tecnology works and I'm transferred to the REAL technical department (her words).
    "what?" came the second answer. Another ten minute explanation followed, then she wanders off to find someone more techy.
    "its your server thats the problem" was their next attempt. I then explain that the event sinks show quite clearly that the message's are reaching their gateway, then failing or being rejected;
    "well your server isn't supported by us and GPRS is working, so it must be fine" - phone is hung up.

    Heh you guys should do business with the network operators on a more regular basis as a company. You don't even know the half of it. I spent over 9 months trying to get a network operator to present the number of the phone calling our IVR's was essential to be able to continue to the project and it took so much time to deliver that it got me so wound up that I was beginning to swear at their techie guys so much that they didn't return my calls...

    Ask me full details when i'm about next and i'll happily fill in the details

    Unlucky agent, but i'm 99% certain static addresses are not possible on Orange GRPS. I'll double check for you from a contact in Orange and pm you when i've got a proper answer.

    I found it just a bit random that 'Agent' was posting about 'Orange'.

    Ah the weird way my mind works!
