So you're basically saying "should I use Windows XP or Vista, but I don't want to use Vista"? Seems you answered your own question to me.

    Re: Vista, or XP

if you want mor performance and less glamour then go for XP as it will yeild better benchmarks. But if you want DX10 and flashy features go for Vista. However if you wait till Windows 7 i heard this is just as quick as XP if not faster and will feature DX11, DX10, and DX9

    Re: Vista, or XP

More or less a battle of opinion. I use vista because it came pre-installed on my hard drive, but i don't even use all these flashy things like the 3d window switch feature, it takes longer if anything.

Definitely prefer XP in terms of ease of use.

    Re: Vista, or XP

You just wait for the advertisements. "Windows 7! The speed of XP with the fancy doo dahs of Vista!".

In all honesty though i've used windows 7 from beta on pc and laptop there's no reason not to have it because it does have all the fancy features of vista and then some (the snapping and then resizing to screen edges is lovely). But you also have speed which I found to be faster than xp! The only reason I am not using it now is that after changing graphics card from 8800gt to gts260 I get crippled performance in 7 which I can only link to drivers not being quite up to task yet.

So my opinion xp or vista would have to be why settle for one or the other when you can have the baby of both!

    Re: Vista, or XP

Tried windows rc 7, its pretty good yeah, had some issues with drivers, because its a release candidate, but apart from that it was sound.

It surpassed my expectations, which were not very high

I wouldnt buy Vista, i would wait for win7, stick with XP until the official release of win7.

I'm using windows 7 and it's pretty darn good and I'll definitely be getting it when the retail version comes out.. Just wait till that comes out until official release
