    PC case lead connection question.

    Could someone advise me please?

New Mobo ASUS MRA78-EM and new ATX case.

The new PC case has several leads, one of them being the lead/connectors for the front of case mic and headphone ports.

    The connectors are marked up as 1x mic, 1x R, 1x L, 1 x GND

According to the MOBO manual, I should connect to the on board AAFP connector as legacy AC 97, is this correct?

If so, using the MOBOs manual's diagram, and the above 4 connectors, do I connect the mic to either mic 2 L or R pins of the AAFP,---- the 1x R & 1x L connectors to L & R line out pins and the ground connector to the AGND pin, is this correct?

If I connect and use these front of case ports, when in use, will they automatically disable the rear mic and head phone ports?

The connections seem to be correct - without looking at the manual or board specs it looks as if it has provision for a stereo mic, but once the system is up and running you may be able to link that so that the mono mic appears in both channels.

As for disabling the rear connections, probably not, but that may be a software controlled function, either through the bios or through the sound system driver.

I don't think that connecting and using the front ports will disable the rear. I think most new mobos provision extra connectors for cases with front panel connections, as an addition, not swap/replacement to the rear audio. I may be wrong though...

    Thanks peterb,

I connected them that way, everything appears OK.

    Hi,

With my new PC case came a tiny two wire system speaker module, could someone tell me where I fit this on the above Mobo?

Normally plugs into a header on the mobo (usually the header where you connect the power switch, reset switch, hdd activity light and so on - the manual should tell you. (IIRC, some mobos don't have that provision - I don't know about yours though)

    Hi peter,

The Asus board came with q-connector blocks, I think the header/q-block from the mobo is fully occupied, I will talk a look.

my asus board had a single q-connector block - the speaker connection goes on the q-connector.
