    Unhappy No VGA Detected!Please help!

    Guys,
Most weird problem! After updating my Graphics crad with the latest drivers,my machine gives One Long,Three Short Beeps while booting, which according to my Mobo manual indicates No VGA Detected, and then freezes completely.
Now,the strange part is that when I press the Power Button for some time, the machine recovers from its freezed state and boots normally.

Also, this does NOT occur everytime I switch on my PC.It is random and erratic

Is it a problem with the corrupt driver or my PCI-E slot or my card itself??

To note:When my PC boots finally in an OS(Vista.XP),I can do everything including playng games for long hours without any crashes or freeze ups.
My mobo has got two other PCI-E slots of the same config as the one the graphics card is currently fitted into.

I'm at my wits end. Please help.

    Re: No VGA Detected!Please help!

It is unlikely to be a driver issue as the drivers only come into play once windows has started loading - which is long after the initial boot and post. (Power On Self Test)

have you done anything to the machine internally and could have disturbed something? Try reseating the graphics card.

If the problem persists, try running memtest 86+ to eliminate memory problems. If that proves ro ne OK, try sustituting (of you have one) a different graphics card or the PSU as problems with either of those compomemts could cause the symptoms described.

I have already run Memtest86+.All tested OK with no errors.I have changed my PSU last week only, its a brand new Corsair TX 650W,so unlikely its a faulty PSU(tho cant be sure).I have no other Graphics card.

    And here are my specs:
    C2D E7300 | ASUS P5Q-E | Palit Radeon HD4870 1GB DDR5 | Corsair 800Mhz 2X2GB 5-5-5-18 | Seagate 500GB 7200.11 |Corsair TX 650W| Corsair CM 690 |Dell 19"|Creative t6100

If everything was fine previously then just roll back the drivers.

    Re: No VGA Detected!Please help!

Can anyone tell me urgently is there any difference in

speeds/transfer rates or anything whatsoever between the two PCI-E

X16 slots((one blue and one black) in ASUS P5Q-E mobo?Or are they

    exactly identical.?

This is because I need to shift my Gfx card from blue to the black

slot and I'm worried about a performance downgrade.

The mobo manual should give you teh specs.

Going back to your fist post - did you update the graphics card firmware or was it the windows drivers? (As I said earlier - drivers will not be the problem, but if it is the card firmware, that could be)

Are you moving the card to see if the problem is still there?

No I haven't,yet.I'm trying to eliminate the possibility of a faulty UPS.My Grfx Card is still in the Blue Slot.Well I have two PCI-E 2.0 slots ,both 16X.However,Mobo manual advises to keep single Gfx card in Blue slot for better performance. So what is the technical reason for this??

    My motherboard is ASUS P5Q-E.

    Please help!!!

Optimised slot? Not sure. Eliminating a faulty UPS is easy - just plug teh computer into the mains supply directly.
