DVI -> VGA connector - No display problem

    Hi,

I have a GA-73PVM-S2H (rev. 1.0) motherboard with VGA, DVI and HDMI video outputs.

    All three work independently.

VGA -> VGA monitor -> Perfect
DVI -> DVI capable monitor -> Perfect
    HDMI -> Telly -> Perfect

The problem is: When I used a DVI/VGA convertor on the DVI output to get display to a VGA only input monitor, the monitor doesn't get any video signal and goes to sleep!

I have another computer that I have connected with the same cable and the same convertor, it works fine.

Is there a known problem with these motherboards, any setting I'm missing?

    Any help will be appreciated....

(The reason for doing so is: I have two VGA enabled monitors and want to run a dual head config and I'm using VGA to output to one and need the DVI converted output for the other one...)

It may be DVI-D, which only outputs a digital signal. Although I didn't think an adaptor would fit onto these.

It should say in your manual what type of DVI socket it is.

Ok, checked the specs online and there's a note that I had missed.

    Specs say:

Integrated DVI/ HDMI interface with HDCP

    1 x DVI-D port (Note 1)
(Note 1)The DVI-D port does not support D-Sub connection by adapter.

Does that mean I can't run a dual head config???

It means you can't use that socket to output an analogue signal
It would work fine with a digital monitor though, assuming the board supports multimonitor. Most with multiple outputs do.

Thanks, last question... is it possible to run a multi-mon system with a VGA splitter?

I can only seem to duplicate the display...

Yes and No. VGA splitters are a black art.

Some cards can send 2 outputs that is split by the cable, which is connected to 2 monitors. Generally speaking though, most just split the image up as you've said.

If you're not sure if your output supports multiple monitors off one output, it's almost certain it doesn't.
