But now my system starts up and boots directly into XP. How can I create a boot loader where I can select which os 2 boot win7 or XP. Please help

You could try editing the boot.ini file of the XP installation to include Win 7 as well. There is a guide here if you need it http://vlaurie.com/computers2/Articles/bootini.htm.

    Re: bootloader messed up Win7/XP

Don't you have to do it the other way round? i.e. repair the Win 7 installation then add the WinXP NTLDR thing to Win 7?

    Re: bootloader messed up Win7/XP

Install Windows 7, then download EasyBCD if it's working on 7, and then just configure XP boot from within that.

You have to install the 7 bootloader last, and then sort out XP from within 7.

+1 to this. I used this to setup my bootloader on my XP/Vista64 dual boot. Made Vista the default and also changed the default time, so there is just enough for me to select if needed, but not so long that it makes booting a lot longer. Really simple app to use

I dont want to re format i have too much to loose and i have like no time.
To switch OS's i have to repair their boot loader depending on which OS i want to boot. I installed XP afgter win 7 which I knew wasnt the best idea i just had my fingers crossed that everything would be alright. I want to create a boot menu to allow me to select which OS to boot

I didn't say format, I said reinstall - meaning reinstall the 7 bootloader.

Just insert the disk and select repair installation if it's anything like Vista.

    Re: bootloader messed up Win7/XP

Erm, as in what I wrote in post #7?

There's no such thing as a boot.ini in Vista and 7 by the way.

    Re: bootloader messed up Win7/XP

Right, so you may need to mess around with the settings in EasyBCD to reconfigure the XP startup. I think it may even give you access to the boot.ini through EasyBCD, although I'm not sure from memory.
