    DSR - 20% restocking fee

    Hi

1st post and I'm asking for help!

I ordered a new top cover and bluetooth module for my Acer laptop from acerspareparts.co.uk - I can't post a link since I haven't made 5 posts on this forum.

The package arrived 1st Dec and was franked that it was despatched 30th Nov from Banbridge which is near Belfast, NI.

The order is all correct but I've decided not to fit the bluetooth module.

Having read the T&C's on the sellers website they will intend charging a 20% restocking fee - acerspareparts.co.uk/index.php?main_page=conditions - see 7.2 and 7.4. Rather than hijack another thread on this forum I decided to post although I believe I am clearly in my DSR rights to expect a full refund although I must pay for safe delivery of the iitem.

The item is still sealed in iit's original packaging, although I understand that under DSR I can actually open it if I wished.

Am I correct that an email (and for belt and braces a fax too) stating that under DSR I wish to return the item for a full refund is the correct course of action?

    Many thanks for any advice.

Re: DSR - 20% restocking fee

The Consumer Forums is the best place for these kind of things:
    http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/

Under the DSR you cannot be charged a 'restocking' or 'penalty' fee for returning an item in reasonable condition within 7 days.

You are allowed to open and inspect the contents, although some companies will try to convince you otherwise.

Delivery costs is a tricky area and after reading a few threads on the consumer forums in the past I'm none the wiser.

Re: DSR - 20% restocking fee

    Thanks for the reply,

I've answered myself now as I found this link on a post here:

    oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/general/oft698.pdf again,not allowed to post a URL

This clearly states no restocking or admin charges.

P&P not an issue as I'm keeping one item and this website charges a set delivery fee regardless of items purchased so I owe it anyway.

Re: DSR - 20% restocking fee

under DSR they arent allowed to charge anything if you return it within 7 days. I had the same problem with CPW and they refused to pay me back the airtime of £10. i went to consumer direct and downloaded their DSR template letter sent it off 2 weeks later I got my £10. The have to give you back the full refund no stocking fee or delivery charges allowed.
