    Re: First system build.

The iy 9xx series of CPu's only work in socket 1366 motherboards - also known as X58/Bloomefield. The Core i5/7 CPU's with 7xx/8xx in the name fit into the socket 1156 motherboards also know as P55/Lynnefield. So that CPU and motherboard you've listed will not be compatible. Also you need to pick RAM that uses 1.65volts or less, the RAM you've posted uses more than that and will damage your i5/7 processor. Other than that everything is good, i'd suggest going with a better CPU cooler though such as the Akasa Freedom Tower ( i use it and its top quality) also you could drop the PSU to the Corsair VX550 and be fine with your build

Those will work fine with each other and the P6T is a top board Im assuming your gonna drop the P55 board then and go with the i7 920 CPU - in which case your build is finished

Thats fine Also you would be best going with the 1600MHz Crucial RAM IMO rather than the OCZ stuff - It's £30 less and you'll notice no difference in games, just a thought. Oh, and enjoy the build

thanks for all your help. i think i will order these parts this week.
The fact is the Core i7 920 in single card situation is not that brilliant a choice for the extra cost over a Phenom II or Core i5:

    http://techreport.com/articles.x/17402/4

TBH,you should go for a Core i5 750 if you want to go Intel and put the money saved towards a better graphics card like an HD5850.

    You should read this article:

    http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=869

By the time you reach 2.8GHZ even with a Phenom II an HD5970 which is fastest graphics card out there shows no further improvements in framerates. An HD5970 is basically a pair of downclocked HD5870 GPUs on a single card.

    You check out this thread:

    http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardwa...ne-advice.html

TBH,for £800 I would be looking to fit in an HD5850 or a pair of HD5770 cards. Take the cost of the monitor and Windows 7 away then the money saved would easily pay for a pair of HD5770 cards or an HD5850.

Here is a performance review for a pair of HD5770 cards in Crossfire:

    http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=862&p=2

Games are not CPU limited currently and barely use three cores let alone 4 cores.

With DX11 already being released and the fact that many more DX11 games are being released next year it is worth spending the extra money on a DX11 graphics card if you don't indeed to upgrade it for a while.

Nope!! I think you are talking slight nonsense here!! This means that all of use with overclocked Q6*** series,Q8*** series and Q9*** series CPUs and Phenom II are incapable of playing any modern games or something??

Looks like many people I know are screwed(including me) and so are many on Hexus too!!

Also, what is this nonsense about energy efficiency then?? A socket 1366 processor is energy efficient?? An HD4890 is energy efficient??

I never said the 1366 offerings were energy efficient, read: suggestion of i5, I never said the same about / suggested a 4890 and what has a monitor got to do with anything You've lost me. And i stand by my point about spending £800 and not going AMD, i also don't understand what your getting at with the Core 2's ?
