Laptop decided to move EVERYTHING into one folder

    Hey all,

Have a Sony Vaio with Vista and this morning I was just loading it up and forgot to plug it in, so it went dead, booted it back up and my initial thoughts were "bugger Windows has wiped everything etc". Went straight to look at the harddrive and it was still full, hmm, so I went into Computer > Users > Laptop.

And every single file on the laptop has been moved there....

The laptop basically looks like a clean install, and even My Documents etc are all new folders created today.

What would make the system do this? Also for about 2 minutes Windows did not want to log in, stating User Profile is unavailable.

    Any idea?

Someone at work had this happen - they rebooted a couple of times over the course of a day and it went back to normal.

Some kind of recovery mode I think. Give it a try before anything else.
