Help trying to overclock graphics card

I've been trying to OC my graphics card recently (something that I have done before) but for some reason it just doesn't seem to be working. I'm using GPU-Z to measure clock speeds. NVidia's nTune won't let me OC and when I slide the sliders on Riva Tuner, there is no actual corresponding effect on the graphics card. I've also "compatibility mode" in the compatibility tab but nothing seems to be working.

This strikes me as quite bizarre so I was wondering what your suggestions may be, including other good overclocking programs to try. My components are listed in My System and all drivers are up to date (so 196.21 graphics drivers).

Riva tuner works okay for me.

You're reloloading GPUz and clicking apply in rivatuner;there is high level and driver level over clocking too. There are plentyof tutorials out there; I can't figure out why it would not work.

The (most) recent 'stable' drivers have disabled overclocking. Nvidia have acknowledged this and there are beta drivers on nvidia's web site which re-enable it and are perfectly stable!

Ah, I was thinking along the lines of something driver related!

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to give it another go after dinner. Did they say why they disabled overclocking?

EDIT: Oh, reading the release highlights for the beta, it says the lack of overclocking was indeed just a bug!

Sounds like NVidia - presumably they did it because they can't QA every card at every combination of clock speeds...

I have the 196.21 graphics drivers on my 280GTX's and they are both overclocked to 700/1536/1260, 24/7 without any problems.

Installed the beta drivers and am currently testing the limits
