    Server/Print Spooler

    Hey,

So, I have a HP Deskjet D2530 attached to a PC running Windows XP. I just installed the drivers, all updates are done. It's connected via a USB cable and running the basic drivers (PC designed as a server), and the print spooler keeps crashing.

I know it works, because when I print a test page, bam. It works. Print anything else besides a test page and it fails.

I've tried googling the issue and tried some of the items, but it still fails.

    Error:

(Sorry for not cropping, but wanted you to see what applications are also running.)

    Re: Server/Print Spooler

Do you have another computer to test it with, is the printer USB only, if has a parallel port can you try that. have you previously installed the printer then removed it? Some timers when you install a printer with the same name as a removed one it can have problems as part of the config has been left around. Are you seeing any USB disconnections?

Hehe. Thanks, though. Btw, a detail I forgot to include, I am trying to print across the network to this printer.

Hmmm ok, please describe your setup. Is the printer on one windows computer and your trying to print from another?

Where did you print the test page from? Where are you trying to print normally from.

The printer is connected to a 15ft USB cable running from a Windows XP Professional SP3 PC. The XP machine has ALL updates.

I'm trying to print from a Windows 7 Ultimate PC (My notebook). Both will print Test pages, anything else, t3h fail.

Now, even when I try to just restart the Print Spooler, it just fails right off the bat.

15ft is a long cable for USB, 5 meters (16 feet) being the maximum, do you have a shorter cable you could try. USB has problems with timing over long distances so it could be losing sync. Can you try setting up your laptop directly with a short cable and print on it to see if it works.

The printer is USB only. It works fine with server2 (the PC that it's connected to) when it isn't shared (verified through Remote Desktop by printing the Reddit.com page).

When I try to print anything when it's shared, it uberly crashes.

Also, seeing your new post, yeah. I've got a six footer and I can give it a try.

    Re: Server/Print Spooler

The Print Spooler still fails even with a shorter cord when printing through my laptop to server2.

Man, I missed the 2nd part of this. Yes, it works correctly when connected directly to the printer.

    Edit://

My laptop works correctly when connected directly to the printer.

    Re: Server/Print Spooler

Windows XP machines can print to it. Only Win7 cannot. Any ideas?

The Windows 7 PC can print test pages to the printer, but nothing else.

I found this it might be useful

I think this is the solution

Change to the Advanced tab and Uncheck “Enable Advanced printing features” on the xp machine.
