    Formatting a clean HDD

    Hello

Received my Scan Magic Bridge today (hurrah!) so have been able to connect a spare HDD to it and access data via PC.

However, I'm trying to format a new drive which has had zeros written to it, but it isn't showing up under "Computer" as the other spare drive did when the bridge is switched on. The new drive works as I've used it before but it just isn't showing up at the moment.

Just wondering whether there's a manual way to access this drive and format. I don't have the laptop at the moment so was looking to format the drive for NTFS now to save time. Laptop will be here for weekend only.

What I'd ideally like to do is format and partition but given I can't access it at the moment that's a little tricky.

/\ what he said... it's cos it has NO PARTITION on it.. so it cant be seen until you set one

even if it's the WHOLE disk.. it still counts as a partition

Can't believe I've never used that utility before (didn't even know about its existence). It's formatting now so thanks very much to you both!

All done. I'll create a partition when it's in the laptop as not sure how much space the DELL diagnostics and recovery will require.

    Re: Formatting a clean HDD

You'd be better off altering the partition table before adding data if possible as resizing partitions on a drive containing data carries the risk of corrupting it. As mentioned even if there's only one it's still a partition. It's like this: drive represented by [], partition by <>, [<Data>] or on a drive with 2 partitions [<Data><Data>].
    Hope this helps.
