ATI Driver intallation issue Windows 7

Hi. I have just rebuilt my HTPC with Windows 7 Ultimate (x86). Hardware is as follows:

    Asus P5K-E WiFi
    Core2Duo 2.66
    2GB Ram
    Compro S350 DVB-S card
    ATI HD2400 PCIe
    Sony W5500 via HDMI

Upon installation windows recognises the ATI card just fine, and installs drivers. So far so good.

However I am experiencing poor performance in Media Centre watching BBC-HD, and also issues with over scanning in 1920x1080 32-Bit@24Hz mode.

Display is correct (no over scan) in 1920x1080 32-Bit@59Hz

I tried to install CCC 10.2 in the hope i might be able to resolve my 2 issues. However, if I just go ahead and install I get a Blue Screen error (too quick to read). After reboot, if I start windows normally I get another blue screen. So I use safe mode to uninstall the drivers, and reboot. Windows then re-installs its standard drivers which at least gives me a useable machine.

This problem also happens with 10.1 and 9.6.

I have installed the CCC from 10.2 release separately, and it kind of works, but I cant find the over scanning controls.

I have also tried uninstalling the device, checking the delete drivers option and then installing, which seems to work, but in actuality it is just not installing the driver.

Has anyone got any hints on what I am doing wrong?

(Originally posted in ATI Care forum, but nobody seems to go there)

Did you go into the control panel to add/remove drivers ? I would not allow 7 to install the drivers.
Go into the control panel and uninstall the ATI drivers and all associated files. Reboot.
    Re-install 10.2 or even 10.3. Reboot.
I'm not familiar with overscanning issues, but a quick Google bings up this thread which looks as if it has a solution at the bottom.

Re: ATI Driver intallation issue Windows 7

OK, Tried what was said. Went to device manager, Uninstalled my GFX card, checked the box to delete associated driver files. Cue 800x600 screen res.

Next went to gpedit.msc from the cmd prompt and disabled driver intallation so that Windows wouldnt automatically re-install on startup.

Rebooted, and ran CCC 10.3 setup to uninstall previous software. this removed a HDMI audio driver and CCC.

Rebooted again, turned off the setting in gpedit so that drivers could be installed

Ran CCC 10.3 setup. Everything looked like it installed properly. Was prompted to reboot to complete installation, so I did...

    Windows 7 loading logo... BSOD.

Reboot into safe mode, use restore point.

I have really run out of ideas short of removing hardware and trying some more

Does anyone have any suggestions? Something I havent tried?

Check device manager when the drivers are uninstalled - is everything OK with the "Graphics Adapter"?

Re: ATI Driver intallation issue Windows 7

Yes, also works "fine" with the WDM 1.1 drivers. Only I cant get the overscanning issue sorted out and BBC-HD misbehaves under hardware decode.

If I stick to 59HZ I get a "perfect" 1:1 picture on my TV.

I tried my other PC on the screen and my 8800 GTS can dispay 24HZ 29HZ 30HZ 50HZ 59HZ and 60HZ all with no overscanning.

I have pretty much decided to get a passive GT240... Just wondering where to get the £70
