PS3 parental control for web surfing

Guys, is there any way to tell PS3 parental control to block access to specific sites or category of sites?
The only thing I have found is Trend Micro PS3 service but you have to pay $20/year.

    On my PC's, it's a breeze with K9.

    Thanks.

    Looking on here:

    http://manuals.playstation.net/docum...entallock.html

Specific website blocking may incur a fee.

Alternative looks like to just disable the browser completely, which will force the kids to use the pc.

Can't block web browsing completely - it gets used by siblings for large screen steaming e.g. utube.

Would it be possible to do it with OpenDNS?

They have a filtering service, depends how DNS works with the PS3 and whether it is configurable.

Re: PS3 parental control for web surfing

Censoring the internet *if* the young individual is smart enough to deal with it maturely is a very lame thing to do, that said most people are not, and like age restrictions on games etc I guess it has to be done I guess to deal with the small potential for people doing really stupid stuff. Heh, remember it being a fun game at school keeping ahead of the dorky admins putting filters on pretty much anything (f off websense), driving them up the wall.

If not for the hugely educating effect of unrestricted internet access I'd be a lot less interesting person overall I think, it really is hugely beneficial for the right kind of people, teaches you a lot about the world, human nature etc etc - it's a bit sad these days how as more parents understand computers they are looking to impose control on everything rather than allowing younger people to develop their own opinions. It's not like you can keep them in a songbird cage forever. I think most of the fuss about "protecting" young people is more about adults wanting to keep their offspring ignorant because they prefer the aesthetics of innocence themselves rather than having the human individuals' actual own best interests in mind.

(That said may not be relevant to this particular case from the siblings comment meaning I guess you only want to do it for someone really young. Think I was about 10 when we got screaming.net dialup, before Freeserve and all that. Then again I played Doom when I was about 6 back in DOS Shell though parents kept uninstalling (with me reinstalling it from the demo disc, ha) it due to the "video nasty" daily mail moral panics giving them misleading ideas)

Do you have parental controls on your router?

Just had a look, you can indeed set manual DNS settings in the PS3 so that should do the trick.
