    New build graphics problems

    Hi all,

i've just finished putting together my rig after an upgrade to the processor and motherboard. In my old rig i had a gigbyte AM2 motherboard, AMD 5600+ X2, 4gb OCZ gold, and i've upgraded these to an Asus M4A79XTD EVO motherboard, AMD X4 965 and 4gb GEIL Dragon memory (1333mhz).

The problem is that my gfx card (BFG GTX 280) appears unresponsive when i start it up. The screen is blank and the fans on the card don't start either.

I originally had an OEM copy of Vista 32bit installed and was hoping to do a clean install of Win7 64Bit.

I have no way to test the card to see if somethings wrong with it and don't know what to do. As its a bfg i'll have no problem getting a new one with the warranty and as for the mobo i should be able to return the mobo if its faulty but i dont want to do any of this until im sure what the problem is.

Anyone have any idea on what might be happening here?

Additional details are as follow (If its any helpy):

    OCZ 1000w Psu
    Antec 900 Case
2x WD (god knows what's) in RAID

Everything else in the system seams to be booting up fine, just the gfx card...

    Cheers all.

Could be that you just haven't reseated the card properly in the new mobo or forgotten to connect the six pin power lead to the back of the gfx card?....easily done if you are in a hurry to get it up and running .

Try removing and re-seating the card into the mobo and make sure it is pushed all the way home.

i've tried that several times im starting to think it might be the card itself or the pci-e slot...

    Re: New build graphics problems

rawkus.. sounds like the PCIE slot compatiblity issue with that card.... however...... try it in the small PCI Express slot.. the tiny one.
OK, the card won't fit in all of the slot cos it's shorter.. but it has a slot n the back edge to allow the card to stick out. I have doe just this in an older nVidia nforce 4 board and it boots fine, cos the main slot is dead.

If it boots ok in that slot, you prolly have a dead PCI express lot.

    Re: New build graphics problems

thanks for the advice but the card wont fit in any of the other slots. would my card still boot if it didnt have all the power connectors attached? i only ask because i can test the card in my mates system if this is the case.

    Re: New build graphics problems

    Right,

    Got a new developement.

I've had a go at swapping mine and my house mates graphics cards. He has an Asus 5770HD. In my machine his card spins up but there is still no signal, and in his rig my GTX280 remains dead, with only the red light near the exhaust vent showing its getting power...

So im thinking both my board AND my card are dead... Any clarification on this would be great before i go sending everything off for replacements...

    Re: New build graphics problems

Just for clarification were you using the same monitor when you put your card in your housemate's rig?.....if so it could be the monitor and card as opposed to the board, if not then board and card seem the likely culprits.

    Re: New build graphics problems

i was using my monitor when testing th cards in my rig but not when testing in his... think im gonna be RMAing the lot of it tbh which is a pain as the whole lot (excluding gfx) card came in a bundle. does anyone know if there are compatibility issues with my card and board ? if this is the case then might have tn shift over to the old ati gfx cards
